Campeonato Británico de Golf Amateur Masculino
El campeonato de golf entusiasta de los caballeros de Gran Bretaña (en inglés " The Amateur Championship ") es un torneo de golf anual que se lleva a cabo en Gran Bretaña en junio. Llamado en el Reino Unido " The Amateur Championship " o en el continente norteamericano " British Amateur ", es uno de los torneos de golf amateur más prestigiosos del mundo con el US Amateur Golf Championship en el que los mejores golfistas aficionados compiten entre sí.
El torneo fue creado en 1885 y organizado por el Royal and Ancient Golf Club de St Andrews . Antes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial , el torneo se consideraba un torneo importante junto con el Campeonato de golf amateur de Estados Unidos, el Abierto de Estados Unidos y el Abierto británico . Después de esta guerra, el golf profesional se vuelve predominante en el mundo del golf pasando al golf amateur de fondo, solo los españoles José Maria Olazábal y Sergio García ganaron este torneo como amateur y luego ganaron en un gran torneo una vez que se convirtieron en profesionales.
El ganador del torneo recibe una invitación al Masters del año siguiente y al British Open . El torneo está abierto a golfistas aficionados de cualquier nacionalidad.
